Valkeala

Valkeala [ vɑlkɛɑlɑ ] is a former municipality in the south of Finland and is now a part of the city of Kouvola.

Valkeala is north of the Kymi landscape in southern Finland. The municipality had a population of Valkeala last 11,656 and included a vast area of 1003.7 km ². The area of Valkeala is rural and rich in lakes: in the former municipality, there are 246 lakes of more than two hectares in size, there are a total of just under 15 % of the area of waters. For the former municipality also includes a part of the Repovesi National Park.

Valkeala 1614 to a chapel community of Iitti, then in 1640 into an independent parish. The beginning of 2009 Valkeala was incorporated along with Anjalankoski, Kuusankoski, Jaalah and Elimäki in the city of Kouvola.
