Arvo Askola

Arvo Askola ( born December 2, 1909 in Valkeala, † November 23, 1975 in Kuusankoski ) was a Finnish athlete.

Askola won at the European Championships 1934 in Turin silver behind compatriot Ilmari Salminen and before the Danes Henry Nielsen the silver medal in the 10,000 m run. In 1936 he won Olympic silver in the same distance, where he had been beaten up by just two tenths of a second Salminen. In 1936, he also became Finnish champion in cross-country running ( about 8 km ).
