Vallehermoso, Santa Cruz de Tenerife

Vallehermoso is one of the six municipalities of the Canary Island of La Gomera. It is home to 2945 inhabitants ( 1 January 2013) over an area of ​​109.11 square kilometers. This is Vallehermoso ( in German: Beautiful Valley ) to San Sebastián the second largest municipality in La Gomera. The capital also bears the name Vallehermoso and was once the seat of the island headquarters.

Economy

The population lives mainly from agriculture. Some dams back up the water supply for the potato, tomato, banana and grapes. Here the center of the palm honey production ( Miel de Palma). Also noteworthy is the production of goat cheese and brandy. Some artisans who are engaged in basketry, weaving and pottery, which is largely untouched by tourism valley support economically.

Attractions

The valley is famous mainly because of the natural rock formation Los Organos, the organ pipes. There are washed free from the sea basalt columns, which are only visible from the ship. The municipality also includes the sources of Epina, the potters of El Cercado and the fortress of the Guanches ( Natives ) on Mount La Fortaleza in Chipude.

In the village there is about a third of the national park Garajonay.

Note the church Iglesia de La Candelaria in Chipude from the 16th century, as well as the San Juan Bautista church in the center of Vallehermoso from the end of the 17th century.

Directly located on the coast of Vallehermoso, designed by photographer Thomas K. Müller, the cultural center El Castillo del Mar. He made the old Bananenverladestation a center for concerts, outdoor cinema and folklore performances. Many of the island, especially bananas were packed here loaded on steamboats. In 1950, the building was shut down. Thomas K. Müller acquired the Castillo del Mar in 1981 and had it restored.
