Valorous Unit Award

The Valorous Unit Award is after the Presidential Unit Citation, the second highest award which is awarded to units of the United States Army. Awarded she is in such units that have been proved außerordendlichen heroism in action against an armed enemy. This can also occur if the unit is used with friendly foreign forces, even if the United States are not belligerent. Only in exceptional cases, military organizations may qualify above the battalion level for the award.

The decorations will be worn by anyone ( and future ) members of the winning unit. Those soldiers who took part in the operation that led to the award of the prize, the BOI may continue to lead you through their service in the unit beyond. It is worn on the right side of the uniform of the United States Army - details are regulated by the regulation Army Regulation 670-1.

The decorations were introduced in 1966 and retroactively awarded also to units that met the required criteria after 3 August 1963. The BOI is comparable to the Silver Star, which may be awarded for bravery before the enemy as an individual award. This is also reflected in the Silver Star style similar coloring.

The Valorous Unit Award is on a par with the Joint Meritorious Unit Award ( DoD), Navy Unit Commendation (USN ), the Gallant Unit Citation (USAF ) and the Coast Guard Unit Commendation ( USCG). Followed is the award of the Meritorious Unit Commendation (or the Joint Meritorious Unit Award from the DoD) that knows well its equivalent in any strike force.
