Vano Merabishvili

Ivane ( Vano ) Merabishvili (Georgian ივანე ( ვანო ) მერაბიშვილი; born April 15, 1968 in Ude District Adigeni, Samtskhe Javakheti - ) is a Georgian politician (United National Movement ). From December 2004 to June 2012 he was Interior Minister of Georgia, then prime minister four months. Since October 2012, he is the general secretary of his party.

Life

In 1985, he put on the high school in Akhaltsikhe from the High School. He studied at the Georgian Technical University in Tbilisi geodesy, completed his academic training as an engineer from 1992. Three years he remained as a laboratory assistant at the university. In 1995 he became chairman of the association for the defense of the rights of the landowners.

He was elected on the list of Georgian citizens in the Union Parliament in 1999, took over in 2000 the chair of the parliamentary Economic Committee. He distinguished himself as a fierce critic of President Eduard Shevardnadze, whom he accused of lack of interest in reforms and a careless attitude towards corruption and nepotism. In August 2001, he stood behind the rejected Shevardnadze bill Mikheil Saakashvili's Minister of Justice, which provided an expropriation illegally acquired assets.

In 2002 he organized mass protests against the falsification of local elections in Georgia, had to ensure accountable to the Attorney General. In October 2002 he founded with Saakashvili, the opposition party National Movement (now the National Movement - Democrats ), was its secretary general. In 2003, he traveled to Belgrade and made ​​contact to former Serbian opposition, which had overthrown President Slobodan Milošević. Around 1,500 members of the National Movement were prepared in May and June on the basis of the Serbian model in two-day courses on political activism to overthrow Shevardnadze.

After the inauguration of President Saakashvili Merabishvili held various offices of state: On 26 January 2004, he was secretary of the National Security Council of Georgia, was preparing a package of laws to fight against corruption and organized the military build to replace the ruler Aslan Abashidze adjarian. In June 2004 he was Minister of State Security. From December 2004 to June 2012 he was Interior Minister of Georgia. On May 21, 2013 Merabishvili was arrested. He is accused of 5.2 million GEL to have diverted public money during the campaign before the parliamentary election in 2012 illegally for the election campaign of President Saakashvili.
