Vanse

Vanse is a small town in the municipality of Farsund, Norway.

History

Vanse was the former community center of the Lista village was named to 1918 Vanse community. Historically Vanse is mentioned in the following forms: 1801 Vansö, 1865 Farsund and Vanse, 1900 Vanse. In 1965, the municipality Vanse was merged with the municipalities Herad, locker and Farsund Farsund to the community.

The name probably comes from the word Vanse waters from ( vannene ). Vanse located between three lakes ( Prestvannet, Brastadvannet and Nesheimvannet ). The other interpretation can be derived from the name Vanernes, a sanctuary. This includes rainfall, which are triggered by the gods of the genus Njord, Freyr and Freyja.

The church was originally built around 1000 in the style vorgotischem.
