The Wolf ( Original title: Varg Veum ) is a Norwegian detective television series about private investigator Varg Veum. It is based on the novel series by Norwegian author Gunnar Staalesen.

Content

Varg (Norwegian: "Wolf" ) Veum, Trond Espen Seim played by, is a private investigator in the Norwegian port of Bergen. He is a former social worker, divorced and alcoholics and is characterized as reclusive and rough. Convinced of the wickedness of the world, it sometimes exceeds in solving the often violent cases the boundaries of legality. His performance is influenced by the Philip Marlowe of the American novelist Raymond Chandler. Each episode tells a standalone story. Veums orders overlap always with the investigation by the Police Commissioner Jacob Hamre, played by Bjørn Floberg.

Production

The filming of the first season was announced in 2006 by the production companies SF Norge in Norway and miso film from Denmark. Cooperation partners were the TV 2 (Norway ), ARD (via the production company Degeto Film, Germany ), TV 4 (Sweden ), Canal Scandinavia and Yle (Finland). The budget of the first season was 10.5 million euros, the project was supported by the Norwegian Film Fund. The first and fourth episode and the entire second season appeared in Norway as movies. In Germany the first broadcasts took place in public television in the first (season 1) and ZDF (season 2).
