Vasco da Gama (short: Vasco or Vasku ) is a city in the Indian state of Goa.

The name derives from the Portuguese explorer and navigator Vasco da Gama. Vasco has Goa's largest city with an estimated 100,000 inhabitants ( 2005) and a major seaport.

The place is located at the western end of the Mormugao peninsula, at the mouth of the river Zuari, about 30 km from the state capital Panaji.

The city was founded in 1543 and was, until 1961, a Portuguese possession ( annexation to India).

Vasco has a connection to the rail (South Central Railway ), road ( National Highway NH 17A), ship ( Mormugoa Harbour ) and air transport ( Dabolim Airport ).
