Vasile Lupu

Vasile Lupu (* 1595, † 1661) was from 1634 to 1653 voivode ( prince) of the principality of Moldavia.

Vasile Lupu led in 1646 as the first in the Principality of a codified law called Carte de româneascǎ învăţătură (also Pravila lui Vasile Lupu ) a. He led during the Khmelnytsky Uprising directed against Poland - Lithuania alliance with the Zaporozhian Cossacks. In order to strengthen the alliance, married his daughter Ruxandra on August 31, 1652 Tymofiy Khmelnytsky, the son of Bohdan Khmelnytsky Ataman of the Cossacks.
