Vasile Stîngă

Vasile Stîngă ( born January 21, 1957 in Hunedoara, Hunedoara County ) is a former Romanian handball player and current Handball coach.

Time as a player

From 1977 to 1989 played Stîngă for the first team of Steaua Bucharest. With the club he was ten Romanian champion (1979-1985 and 1987-1989) and Cup Winners' Cup twice (1981 and 1985). 1989 reached Steaua also the final of the European Cup of Champions. There, however, they lost SKA Minsk after a first leg victory ( 30:24 ) in the total payroll by a 23:37 defeat in Minsk. 1989 Stîngă could move to the West and joined CB Avidesa Valencia. With Valencia he won the 1992 Spanish Cup. In 1992 Stîngă had to end his career after a serious knee injury.

Vasile Stîngă 1984 could win the bronze medal with the Romanian team, both at the Summer Olympic Games in Moscow in 1980, and at the Summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles. In both tournaments Stîngă each was the best scorer in the competition field. He also participated twice (1978 and 1982 ) at the World Championships. In 1982, he was top scorer with 65 goals. The number of goals then presented represents a new World Cup record

The student team Stîngă 1981 and 1985 University World Champion. He came predominantly in the left back for use, but also could move into the center of the rear compartment. Despite its relatively small body size of 1.88 m, it was a formidable backcourt Sagittarius.
