Vasilije Šijaković

Basil Šijaković ( born August 2, 1929 in Nikšiću, † 10 November 2003 in Belgrade ) was a Yugoslav football player.

Biography

Šijaković first played at FK Belgrade, for which he took in the third- highest division of Yugoslavia after the Second World War. 1951 brought him the FK Partizan Belgrade in the first division, a year later he came to the city rivals Red Star. Here he came infrequently used, so it gave the club in 1954 at the OFK Belgrade from. Here he was a regular player and won in 1955 with the club the National Cup. He was promoted in 1957 to select players in the Yugoslav national team. Although he was staying in the summer of 1958 with his club in the second division, he was at the World Cup 1958 squad by national coach Aleksandar Tirnanić and played two tournament games, including the lost quarter-final match against Germany. Also called second-division player he belonged to the country selection, with his club he managed in 1959 to direct resurgence. Ironically, parallel completed in the summer of 1959 his international career for the time being.

1962 returned as Šijaković Cup winner with OFK Belgrade in the national team back and was appointed without previous international appearance in the squad for the 1962 FIFA World Cup. In the game against the eventual finalists Czechoslovakia, he ran for three years after his last international match again for Yugoslavia, the 1-3 defeat was, however, his only competition use, and thus also the last of his eleven matches. Following the tournament, he moved to France at FC Grenoble 1892 he finished 1964 in Division 1 his career.

Šijaković returned to Yugoslavia, where he earned his trainer's license in 1965 and worked primarily in the area unterklassigen League.
