Vaupés Department

The Departamento del Vaupés is a province in the southeast of Colombia. It is bordered on the east by Brazil, on the south by the province of Amazonas, Caquetá to the west and north are Guaviare and Guainía.

Agriculture and cattle farming are the economic mainstays of the region. There are grown on inferior land corn, yuca, plantains, rice, cocoa and sweet potatoes. Furthermore, play hunting, fishing, mining and cutting the forest an important role.

Worth seeing are the rapids of the River Jirijirimo Apaporis.

Administrative subdivision

The Departamento del Vaupés consists of three municipalities ( CM ) and three offices (CD). The offices are characterized by the absence of urban structures. The population figures are based on the 2005 census of the DANE.
