Veličná

Veličná ( until 1927 slovak also " Velka Ves "; Hungarian Nagyfalu - older even Velicsna, the name means something like " big village" ) is a municipality in the north of Slovakia in the Orava valley in the landscape Arwa (Slovak Orava ) near the town of Dolny Kubin.

The village was first mentioned in 1272 as Villa Magna. From about the 14th century to 1683 it was the seat of county administration of the county Arwa, then they moved to Dolny Kubin. In 1950 the village was incorporated Revišné, today this forms one of the two parts of municipalities. From 1950 to 1959, Poruba - Geceľ was (now Oravská Poruba ) a part of the community.
