Veliš (Jičín District)

Veliš ( German Welisch ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic. It is located six kilometers south-west of Jičín at the southern foot of the mountain Veliš and belongs to Okres Jičín.

History

Strahov was Veliš the first time in 1140 in a founding document of the monastery mentioned. Built on a hill above the village in 1300 royal castle is occupied for 1316. 1327 acquired the Lords of Wartenberg rule Veliš first as deposit shaft and ten years later as a hereditary possession. For 1438 Hašek is demonstrated by Waldstein as the owner from which it acquired in 1452 the later Bohemian King George of Podiebrad. From his sons bought it in 1482 from Samuel Hradek and Valečov, which was followed by the Trček Leipa. Orders Jan Rudolf Trček of Lipa sold Veliš 1606 Matthias von Thurn, which was expropriated after the Battle of White Mountain. Below it got to Albrecht von Wallenstein, after his assassination in 1634 to Heinrich von Schlick, the 1650, his son Franz Ernst inherited.

Of economic importance in the 19th century was a basalt quarry.
