Velodrome Rakyat
The Rakyat Velodrome is a velodrome in the Malaysian city of Ipoh, located about 200 kilometers north of the capital Kuala Lumpur.
The velodrome was built in 1989 on the initiative of Tan Sri Dato ' Seri Darshan Singh Gill, former president of the Malaysian National Cycling Federation Malaysian Cycling Federation ( MNCF ). For this purpose he collected on a private basis over three million ringgit (around 850,000 euros ). The Velodrome Rakyat is open, the 250 meter long train made of hardwood. Until that time, Malayan Railway Cyclists often had to be sent for training abroad.
Since 1988 there is another Velodrome, the Cheras Velodrome in Kuala Lumpur, a 333 -meter-long concrete runway open. However, both cycling tracks no longer meet international standards and need of renovation; Coach gave several times to reporters that they are worried about the safety of the athletes. A hall velodrome is in the capital planning.
On the Velodrome Rakyat numerous international and national track cycling competitions were held, including the UCI B World Championships 1997 UCI Track Cycling World Cup runs of 2000 and 2001 and the railway competitions in the Southeast Asia Games 1989.
