Venceslau Brás

Venceslau Brás Pereira Gomes ( born February 26, 1868 in São Caetano da Vargem, Minas Gerais, † May 15 1966 in Itajubá, Minas Gerais ) was a Brazilian politician and from 15 November 1914 until the November 15, 1918, ninth President of Brazil. He belonged to the Partido Republicano Mineiro ( PRM).

Life

Venceslau Brás was the son of a politician from Minas Gerais. He studied law in São Paulo and graduated in December 1890. From April 3, 1909 until September 7, 1910 he was Governor of the State of Minas Gerais. From 15 November 1910 to 15 November 1914, he was vice president under Hermes Rodrigues da Fonseca. He told the German Empire in 1917 during the First World War, the war after the German Navy had Brazilian ships sunk.

Venceslau Brás was living the longest Brazilian president and was 98 years old.
