Veneziaspitze

Viewed from the north-west Schöntaufspitzen, from left: III., II and right of the main peak

The top Venezia (Italian Cima Venezia ) is a mountain with three peaks in the Zufrittkamm, called in this section also Marteller main ridge, a mountain range of the Ortler group in the South Alps. The three Venezia peaks lie exactly on the border between the Italian provinces of South Tyrol and Trentino. The main peak, named Cima Venezia I, at an altitude of 3386 meters. The Cima Venezia II is 3371 meters and the Cima Venezia III 3356 meters high. All three points lie on a path extending from southwest to northeast partially covered with firn ridge The summit offers a good all-round visibility, but, since they are difficult to reach than the Köllkuppe ( Cima Marmotta, 3330 m), not so often made like this. The I. Venezia peak on September 24, 1867 First climbed by the cartographer and explorer Julius Payer Alps and the mountain guide, Johann Pinggera from Solda ( soldiers ) on the southwest by the Köllkuppe.

Environment

The three Venezia tips are completely surrounded by glaciers. North of the Third Venezia tip extends the Schranferner ( Vedretta Serena ), then follows, separated by the north ridge of the III. Peak, the market Ultimo addition ( Vedretta Ultima ) and southwest of the Nordgrats II peak of the High Ferner ( Vedretta Alta). In the south, the largest glacier of the area, Vedretta Careser lies with a width of about three kilometers. Adjacent mountains are of the I. Venezia peak, the main peak, as seen, which is about 500 meters away Köllkuppe in the southwest, northeast, 300 meters away II peak and finally, 700 meters from the III. Top. In the course of the Nordostgrats Rear Schranspitze ( Punta Martello ) is with 3357 meters of altitude. The next significant development is the winter Solda, which is approximately 13 kilometers as the crow flies to the northwest. The village Gand ( Ganda ) at Martell in Martell Valley, a side valley of the Vinschgau Valley, is approximately 13 kilometers to the northeast.

Bases and Ascension

The path of the first to climb in September 1867 led by Pejo in southern Val di Sole ( Sole Valley ), first north through the Val della Mare up to Lago Lungo at 2553 meters above sea level and on over the glacier Vedretta Marmotta south to below the 3153 meters lying Hohenfernerjochs ( Passo Vedretta Alta). From there they went in first southeasterly direction along the ridge to the summit of Köllkuppe, and then continue to the north-eastern I. Venezia tip. From the report of Eduard Richter: In the former summit [meaning the Köllkuppe ], the payer did not consider as a separate peak, he did not keep up, on the other hand lingered on the tip Venezia 1 ½ hours and there erected a stone man. Payer and Pinggera needed for the rise of almost 10 hours.

Even today, the Venezia peaks to be climbed usually after crossing the Köllkuppe. Bases for these normal route, so the easiest route, either the random hut ( Rifugio Nino Corsi ) at 2265 meters above sea level or the Martell hut ( Rifugio Martello, 2610 m ), both in northern top of Martell valley. The path leads southwards as high tour with suitable equipment and glacier experience through the High Furthermore up to Hohenfernerjoch, then the sharp- shaped ice ridge ( about 30 ° inclined ) northeast of Köllkuppe. In the course of about wech ended sharply to the northwest fissured hanging Nordostgrats then the Venezia peaks are achieved. Walking time is according to the literature 3 ½ hours from the Martell hut. The southeast flank of the Venezia- main summit in 1877 crosses for the first time, of the Cevedalehütte ( Rifugio Larcher al Cevedale, 2608 m) from the increase takes about 2 ½ hours. 1891 all three peaks were first passed in context, the starting point in this case is the Schranjoch on 3229 meters in the eastern part of the III. Top.
