Vera Buchanan

Vera Daerr Buchanan ( born July 20, 1902 in Wilson, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, † November 26, 1955 in McKeesport, Pennsylvania) was an American politician. Between 1951 and 1955, she represented the state of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Vera Buchanan was the wife of Congressman Frank Buchanan ( 1902-1951 ). During her childhood, she moved to Duquesne, where she attended public schools. About her career beyond politics nothing is handed down.

After the death of her husband, who died as a congressman, it was as a candidate of the Democratic Party in the overdue election for the 33 seats of Pennsylvania as his successor in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where they took up their new mandate on 24 July 1951. After two re- election in the 30th district of their state Vera Buchanan could remain until her death on 26 November 1955 at the Congress. In her time in Congress were, among others, the Korean War and domestic politics of the beginning of the civil rights movement.
