Vera Schmidt (psychoanalyst)

Vera Fedorovna Schmidt ( * 1889 in Starokostjantyniw, † 1937 in Moscow) was a Soviet psychoanalyst.

Life

Vera F. Janizkaja married in 1913 the mathematician Otto Schmidt Yulievich and began a study of pedagogy in Kiev, where she graduated in 1916. She worked after the October Revolution from 1918 to 1920 in the Department of Education of the People's Commissariat of Enlightenment in Moscow. In 1921 she opened there the psychoanalytic orphanage Laboratory, which she ran until 1925.

1922 Schmidt was a founding member of the Russian Psychoanalytic Society (RPV ). From 1925 to 1929 she worked at the Institute for Higher nervous functions of the Communist Academy in Moscow. After the dissolution of the RPV in 1930 she was a research assistant at the Institute for Experimental Defectology the Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of the USSR. She died at the age of 48 years at a thyroid tumor.
