Verdun (South Australia)

Verdun is a small town near Adelaide Hills in South Australia, Australia, which lies between Hahndorf and Bridgewater and passing by the South Eastern Freeway.

Verdun was founded in the 19th century by Prussian emigrants under the name Grunthal. The place was during the First World War, when an anti-German sentiment developed in Australia and many German place names have been changed to Verdun, the site of the major battle of World War I, renamed.

In the village are the Hills Christian Community School, a restaurant and a library.
