The transport department STI AG, formerly Public Transportation Steffisburg -Thun- Interlaken, STI, right bank of Lake Thun originally ( until 1958 ) AG right bank of Lake Thun railway, Electric Railway Steffisburg -Thun- Interlaken, are a Swiss transport company based in Thun in the canton of Bern. Until about 1964, the company wrote itself its acronym STJ, since STI. The company was founded on 16 December 1911. Today, it operates all emanating from Thun bus routes and is also the management of the Lake of Thun - Beatenberg -Bahn ( funicular railway ) and the subsequent Niederhornbahn ( group orbit ) commissioned.
History
The first section of the overland tramway led by Steffi castle over the station Thun to Oberhofen and went on 10 October 1913 in operation. The corresponding concession was granted already on 19 December 1905. The path partitioning to Thun railway (which ran along the left bank since 1893 ) also called right bank of Lake Thun railway was extended to the tourist center Beatenbucht on 24 December of the same year of Oberhofen. On June 20, 1914 was followed by a final extension of Beatenbucht to Interlaken.
Already on December 18, 1939 were replaced the tram between Beatenbucht and Interlaken by buses. Stepwise, the rest of the tram line was closed and replaced by trolleybuses or buses: Merligen - Beatenbucht finally on April 6, 1952 Thun- Gunten on August 10, 1952, on May 31, 1958 January 31, 1952 Gunten - Merligen also the remaining section between Steffi castle and Thun.

Bus
The 1939 recorded bus service was gradually expanded over the years. For a long time were the Municipal bus services tuna ( SAT) rented buses, some of which were procured specifically for this purpose. These vehicles (3 Saurer and 12 Mercedes) bought the SAT on January 1, 1982. 1992 it merged with the STI car traffic AG Gunten - Sigriswil (AGS ). On November 5, 1993, a night bus was introduced between Bern and Thun, which operates today under the name Moon liner. On 1 January 1997, the STI took over the concession, vehicles ( 21 Volvo buses ) and staff (46 persons) by the Municipal Bus tuna ( SAT) as well as retroactively as of 1 January 1996, the traffic Thun- Goldiwil - Heiligenschwendi AG ( ATGH ). This was followed by the acquisition of automobile traffic Thun- halt - Guerbetal ( TSG ) Ltd in 1998, and the traffic AG Heimenschwand ( Humboldt Foundation ) in 1999.
