Vernolic is a naturally occurring, unsaturated and epoxidized fatty. It was first in 1954 in Vernonia, the seed oil of Vernonia bill Aster anthelmintica detected.
Occurrence
Vernolic acid is a component of Vernoniaöls. This is preferable from the seeds of Vernonia galamensis, one occurring in East Africa plant extracts. The seeds contain about 40 to 42% oil, which is in turn 73 to 80 % of vernolic acid. The seed oil of other sham asters such as Vernonia anthelmintica contains up to 30 % less vernolic.
Use
Vernolsäurehaltige oils suitable for the manufacture of epoxy resins. It is comparable with epoxidized linseed oil in the application.
