The High Slip Aster ( Vernonia gigantea ) is a species of the genus appearances asters ( Vernonia ).
Features
The High Slip Aster is (rarely to 3 ) reaches a bare feet, perennial, herbaceous plant, the plant height of 1 to 2. The plant forms a rhizome. The leaves are 15-25 cm long, 3-7 cm wide, ovate-lanceolate, long acuminate scarcely punctured and glandular dentate forward. The teeth have a cartilage tip. The heads consist of 13 to 30 flowers. The bracts are dachziegelig, pressed and green with purple top. Filamentous appendages are absent. The shell is 4-5 mm long and wide. Flower and Pappus are purple.
The flowering period extends from August to September, rarely to October.
Occurrence
The High Slip Aster comes in Southeast Canada and in the eastern and central United States before in wet forests.
Use
The High slip switch is rarely used as an ornamental plant for pond edges and natural gardens. The species is in cultivation since at least 1820.
