Vespasian is a municipality in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil, and is located in the metropolitan region of Belo Horizonte, about 15 km from Belo Horizonte Confins International Airport. In 2007, Vespasian had 94 161 inhabitants. The area of the municipios amounts to 70.3 km ². The patron saint of the city is Our Lady of Lourdes. The place is named after the chief engineer of the Estrada de Ferro Central do Brasil Major Vespasian.
History
The first inhabitants arrived about 1738 on the territory of present-day Vespasian one. Some years later, settled in 1745 miners to exploit mineral resources here. As the capital of the state of Minas Gerais was built, the inauguration of the Estrada de Ferro Central do Brasil played an important factor for the development of economy and population Vespasianos. 1894 received the settlement the name of Vespasian.
