The Viana do Castelo - class is a class of first eight patrol boats of the Portuguese Navy. The first boat was commissioned in 2011.
History
The ships of the Viana -do- Castelo class are intended as a replacement of the remaining, also used as patrol boats corvettes João Coutinho class and the Baptista de Andrade class. Procurement is under the Navio de Patrulha Oceânica ( NPO ) 2000 program.
When commissioning the ship type as the main armament on a transitional basis a 40 mm L60 gun had.
Units
The ships are located in Lisbon, they were named after towns.
Sines is equipped as a buoy tender, Setúbal is used to monitor polluters.
