Victor A. Gangelin

Victor A. Gangelin ( born March 4, 1899 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, † April 2, 1967 in Los Angeles, California ) was an American art director and production designer, who at the Oscar ceremony 1962 Oscar for Best Production Design in the color film West Side Story (1961 ) won and once again was nominated for an Oscar in this category.

Life

Gangelin started work as an art director and production designer in the film industry in Hollywood in 1936 with the film Great guy on and worked until 1966 in the production of over fifty films.

In 1945, he was for the Academy Award for Best Production Design in the black and white film as you farewell Took with Mark -Lee Kirk (1944 ) by John Cromwell with Claudette Colbert, Jennifer Jones and Joseph Cotten in the lead roles.

Together with Boris Leven, he won the 1962 Academy Award for Best Production Design in the dance film West Side Story ( 1961) by Robert Wise and Jerome Robbins with Natalie Wood, Richard Beymer and Russ Tamblyn.
