Victor Prouvé

Victor Prouvé ( born August 13, 1858 in Nancy, Meurthe -et -Moselle department, † February 15, 1943 in Sétif, Algeria) was a French painter, sculptor and engraver. He was co-founder of the Ecole de Nancy and is considered an important exponent of Art Nouveau.

Life

Prouvé came to Paris and studied at the Ecole de Dessin, later he moved to the Ecole des Beaux -Arts Alexandre Cabanel. Subsequently, he worked a lot with Émile Gallé. Even with other artists such as Fernand Courteix, Albert Heymann and Eugène Vallin, a results- rich work designed.

As these artists grouped École de Nancy, also played the craft industry, such as the glassworks Daum Frères, a major role.

1888 Prouvé took an extended study trip to and through Tunisia. From this trip he brought with him a large number of sketches, which then formed the basis for pictures and other art objects.

On January 5, 1898 married Prouvé in Nancy Marie Amélie Duhamel and had seven children with her: Hélène (* 1899), Jean ( 1901-1984 ), Victor Ernest (* 1902), Thérèse Marie ( * 1910), Henri Georges ( * 1915) and Pierre Louis ( * 1918).

1904 appointed one Prouvé as successor to the late Émile Gallé president of the École de Nancy. As such, he headed 1919-1940 the École des Beaux -Arts in his hometown.
