Vik Castle

Castle Vik (older spelling Wik ) is a magnificent building in the Swedish municipality of Uppsala in the historic province of Uppland. It is situated on Lake Mälaren about 10 km south-west of Uppsala.

The building was originally a defensive castle which was built in 1450. In the 17th century it was a castle in the French style, which is now protected as a historic structure.

Vik castle now belongs to the county council ( county council ) of the province of Uppsala County and is used for training and conferences. 1998 was seen as the residence of the main character in the film the castle Commander Hamilton.

History

The first recorded mention of the goods Vik ( Vihc ) as the property of Ramborg Israel yolk (And), wife of the Imperial Council Arvid Gustavsson ( Sparre av Vik ), was 1303. Thereafter, the farm belonged to the noble family Bielke, this was built by the castle. According to the bishop and chronicler Peder Swart besieged Gustav Vasa in 1521 " a little house by the name of Vik ", which is now identified with the castle. The change of ownership took place mainly through inheritance and marriage. Good Vik included, among other Gustaf Horn and the noble families of Liewen and food. In 1912 it was sold for the first time.

Castle Vik today

The conference center consists of 15 rooms of varying sizes. Eight of them are in the castle. There are eight hotels that are open year round in the surrounding area. The conference center is connected to an activity center, which holds the other offers for the visitors.

Following the castle lies an extensive natural park. The gravel paths form a nature trail through hardwood forests and pastures. Over the summer, the nearby beach with bars and grass areas many visitors. There is also a café, which is open from June to August.
