Vincent Cronin

Vincent Archibald Patrick Cronin, FRSL ( born May 24, 1924 in Tredegar, Monmouthshire, then England, Wales today; † January 25, 2011 in Marbella, Andalucia, Spain ) was a British author who mainly with themes of history and biographies with addressed by historical characters.

Life

Cronin was born as the son of originating from Scotland physician and author Archibald Joseph Cronin. The family moved from Wales to London when he was two years old. He attended Ampleforth College before he first began his studies at Harvard University, then at the Sorbonne. At Trinity College, Oxford Cronin completed his studies in ancient history and in philosophy. During World War II Cronin was a lieutenant in the British Army.

Cronin was the first editor of the Companion Guides Guides series, he also served on the board of the Royal Society of Literature (RSL ) of which he was a Fellow.

Cronin married in 1949, the French nobles Chantal de Rolland with whom he had five children. In the following years the family lived in each case for a long time in London, Marbella, Dragey and in Avranches, Manche department in the Basse-Normandie region at the Manoir de Brion. Cronin died at his home in Marbella.
