Vincenz Kollar

Vincenz Kollar ( born January 15, 1797 in Kranowitz, † May 30, 1860 in Vienna ) was an Austrian zoologist, entomologist and writer.

Life and work

After graduation in Leobschutz he began in 1815 to study medicine at the University of Vienna, dealt also with zoology and then worked on the farm and Natural Resources Cabinet in Vienna since 1817. There he was since 1835 under Karl Franz Anton von writer and curator for the 1851 Executive Board of the Zoological Hofkabinetts. In 1848, Vincenz Kollar was a member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences and the Zoological and Botanical Society in Vienna. He devoted himself mainly to exploration and description of the exhibits from the Austrian expedition to Brazil.

Vincenz Kollar has published over 50 scientific articles - in 1833 he took the first descriptions of the steppes - bush-cricket under the Gattungsmamen Locusta montana, the Alpine mountain grasshopper under the name Gryllus alpini (today than Miramella alpini KOLLAR 1883 known) and the cave grasshopper under the name Locusta ( today as Troglophilus Caviola known) before.

According to him, named Theodor Hartig a Gallwespenart Andricus kollari - another gall wasp Cynips kollari was named. The name was kollari assigned when the spiders ( Aranae ) several times; Dysera kollari Doblika 1853, Kollar Scherenkanker: Ischyropsalis kollari, bird Spider: Eresus kollari with six subspecies Eresus kollari frontalis, E. kollari bifasciatus, E. kollari ignicomus, E. kollari illustris, E. kollari latefasciatu, E. kollari tricolor.

In recognition of his scientific work, he received the Knight's Cross of the Franz -Joseph- Order and in 1858 he was appointed a Privy Councillor.
