Violant of Aragon

Violante of Aragon, also Iolanta (* 1236 in Zaragoza, † 1301 in Roncesvalles ) the Royal Wife of Alfonso X, King of Castile and León from 1252 to 1282 and from 1257 to 1273 ( 1284) was king ( anti-king ) of the Holy Roman Empire.

It was I. (1213-1276) and his second wife Yolanda of Hungary (1215-1253), the daughter of the Hungarian King Andrew II Jolante Courtenay born as a daughter of the Aragonese King James.

On December 26, 1246 was married in Valladolid at the age of only 10 years later King Alfonso X of Castile and Leon ( 1221-1284 ). Due to their young age, the marriage remained childless for years and it was feared that the queen was infertile. That Alfonso X the marriage allegedly wanted to cancel, but it is not historically verifiable. Violante bore her husband twelve children.
