Violent Revolution ( engl. violent revolution ) is the tenth studio album by the German thrash metal band Kreator. It was released in September 2001 Steamhammer / SPV. It is the first with new guitarist Sami Yli- Sirniö (ex - Waltari ). After the experimental phase in the 1990s Kreator returned to the thrash style, but occasionally also integrated some melodic elements that are similar to the previous albums.

Formation and style

Before the recordings of Violent Revolution Tommy Vetterli had left the band. On the one hand he had in Switzerland some guitar students, on the other hand he wanted his own studio in advance there. With Sami Yli- Sirniö Petrozza wanted to get a tech savvy guitarist in the band, who also Vetterlis could not play simple stuff. In the meantime, was also drummer " Ventor " not been for the second time in the band, it was Markus Freiwald briefly a member of the group. But part of the recordings the former returned. In retrospect, Mille Petrozza expressed understanding for fans, did not like the Endorama due to the lack of aggressiveness. He, too, was the week-long Programming "too much hassle". Stylistically, he saw, however, Violent Revolution wide-ranging:

" Some may think now ," Aha, now it's again back to the roots ", but it is not actually as well. While there are again thrashing on the plate, but we still do not sound like the mid-eighties. "

The cover depicts a recourse to Coma of Souls, it was like that of Andi Marshal designed. This is not a marketing gimmick, but explained though:

" In Coma of Souls it was about the anesthesia of the soul, and Violent Revolution in the soul of the city is represented in the texts. Since these two topics are similar, we wanted the relationship between the two albums also visually convey. "

In Reconquering the Throne is not about the "throne" of thrash metal bands, but rather to " aufzurappeln again " for errors or bad experiences.

Reception

Violent Revolution provoked positive reactions of critics to euphoric. Wolf -Rüdiger Mühlmann from Rock Hard, who could not be more excited about Kreator since Pleasure to Kill, spoke of a " tour de force ", it was " not a single Blender " included. He also praised the powerful production by Andy Sneap and gave the album 9.5 out of ten. Gary Hill of Allmusic evaluated with four out of five stars and saw the band " back in good shape ." We have by the combination of the previous material with the recent publications " reinvented ". The online magazines were very pleased. Metal.de drew the highest grade ten: should be " If 2001 really the return of thrash metal to be, then Violent Revolution has determined a great debt to this resurrection. What " could be read on Vampster.com " for a grenade! Although the title Reconquering the Throne is actually better understood in a figurative sense, I argue that one has the right to the throne with such an album "!
