However basic idea was the desire for a sound change:

" First, we want anyway away from this stereotyped thinking. That was the first thing we had in mind before we even approach taken us to the new disk. (...), But the basic elements are still the same. There are some songs that are the most aggressive with what we've ever written. "

The change was also reflected in Morris ' production, especially in the dry drum sound with a hollow acting snare, the somewhat subdued and withdrawn guitars and standing in the foreground, but compared to previous albums less high and clearer vocal lines. Was included with reality testing also an instrumental, industrial -inspired sound collage.

After recording the band toured Renewal initially in the UK and the Benelux countries, from the beginning of 1993 was followed by a tour with Biohazard by the rest of Europe.
