Violet Webb

Violet Blanche Webb ( born February 3, 1915 in Willesden, † 27 May 1999 Northwood ) was a British track and field athlete and Olympian.

At the Olympic Games 1932 in Los Angeles, she won the bronze medal in the 4 x 100 - meter relay along with teammates Eileen Hiscock, Gwendoline Porter and Nellie Halstead, behind the team from the USA and the team from Canada. In the 80 - meter hurdles in 11.9 seconds, she was fifth with two tenths of a second behind the winner Mildred Didrikson.

In the British Empire Games in London in 1934 Violet Webb was 5.23 meters third parties. Two years later, she put on the hurdle track with 11.7 seconds on its fifth British national record, at the Olympic Games in Berlin in 1936, she reached the semi-finals.

At a height of 1.73 m her competition weight was 60 kg. In 1937, she ended her athletic career and married Harry Simpson. Her daughter Janet Simpson (1944-2010) won in 1964 also in the 4 x 100 - meter relay bronze medal.
