Viorel Tănase

Viorel Tănase ( born October 7, 1970 in Galaţi ) is a former Romanian football player and current coach. He played a total of 457 games in the Romanian Divizia A and the Israeli Ligat ha Al. Since summer 2013 he has been head coach of FCM Bacau.

Playing career

The career of Tănase began in 1988 at Oţelul Galaţi in his hometown when he came into the squad for the first team, which played into the Divizia A. After the descent 1989, he became the starting players and returned with his club in the summer of 1991 back to the top flight. There he contributed ten goals in the league in 1992. In the summer of 1993 he was given the opportunity to switch to Romanian giants Dinamo Bucharest, but returned in early 1994, after Galaţi back. After the club had been struggling in the following years against relegation, he was able to hold his team from the 1996/97 season in the top group and qualify for the UEFA Cup.

After Tănase in the season 1998/99 once again was able to achieve ten goals took him Maccabi Netanya in Israel. After two years he returned in the summer of 2001 back to Oţelul, but was unable to repeat his former goalscoring. After a year at FC Arges Pitesti in the 2003/04 season he played three years for Galaţi, before he ended his active career in the summer of 2007.

National

Tănase played a game for the Romanian national team, as he half time came in a friendly against South Korea on 16 February 1994 for use before he was replaced by Constantin Gâlcă.

Coaching career

In October 2009 Tănase head coach of Dunărea Galaţi in the League II was a post he retained until January 2012, when it league rival Farul Constanta took them under contract. However, his commitment to Farul lasted only a few months before he was released in April 2012. In the summer of 2012, he took over FCM Bacau again a second division, received in August 2012, but the opportunity to become head coach of his former club Otelul Galati in place of Dorinel Munteanu. Oţelul fell into danger of relegation and in January 2013 parted ways again. Tănase hired then again to FCM Bacau.
