History

In Vireux- Wallerand traces of metal extraction from the 1st century have been found with respect to time reversal. Above the Vicus of Vireux- Wallerand an attachment was created little after the year 260, which was probably damaged or destroyed by 350. At the end of the 4th century, the fortification was apparently with a strong crew, mainly Germanic mercenaries equipped. About 700 meters away, at the end of the mountain spur these were buried in death presumably, of which 47 graves from the late 4th and the first half of the 5th century testify. Among the graves of four cremations and two Germanic woman with jewelry, six graves were contained weapons. Vireux- Wallerand belonged to the county of Luxembourg in the time since the Luxembourg were also kings of Bohemia. Therefore, the tradition to refer to its inhabitants as Bayamons or Bohemons stirred.

Infrastructure

The centers of both Vireux- places are connected by a bridge over the Meuse.

From the traffic routes through the valley of the Meuse run on the left bank of the Meuse, the national road 51 and the railway line from Charleville to Givet, on the right of the bike path Voie Transardenne. The old railway line to Mariembourg is indeed used by the museum railway Chemin de Fer à Vapeur des trois Vallées ( Three Valleys Steam Railway ), but their trains terminate beyond the Belgian border in Viroinval - Treignes.
