Viscount Daventry

Viscount Daventry, Daventry of in the County of Northamptonshire, is a British hereditary title of nobility in the Peerage of the United Kingdom, which is supported by the family FitzRoy Newdegate.

Award

The title was created in 1943 for Muriel FitzRoy. This was done in recognition of the merits of her husband Edward FitzRoy, who had died two months earlier during his tenure as Speaker of the House of Commons. Usually, the Speaker was otherwise brought before leaving office in the hereditary nobility.

More titles

In addition to the Viscountswürde no subordinate title is passed. However, Edward FitzRoy was the second son of the then Baron Southampton and a male descendant of the Duke of Grafton. Therefore, the respective Viscount stands in the succession of these two titles.
