Viscount Scarsdale

Viscount Scarsdale, of Scarsdale in the County of Derbyshire, is a British hereditary title of nobility in the Peerage of the United Kingdom, which is run by the family Curzon.

The family seat is at Kedleston Kedleston Hall in Derbyshire.

Award

The title was created in 1911 for the Conservative politician and former Viceroy of India, George Curzon, 1st Baron Curzon. This was the same Earl Curzon of Kedleston and Baron Ravensdale, ten years later Marquess Curzon of Kedleston raised to.

However, since no male descendants Curzon had three daughters, the title Viscount Scarsdale received the special mention that he could pass on Curzon's father and his male descendants. He then went over to his nephew at his death.

Subordinate title

The respective Viscount leads the subordinate title of Baron Scarsdale, of Scarsdale in the County of Derbyshire. This was created in 1761 for the long-term lower house deputies Sir Nathaniel Curzon, 5th Baronet and belongs to the Peerage of Great Britain.

More titles

The Viscount is also a Baronet, of Kedleston in the County of Derbyshire. This 1641 created title belongs to the Baronetage of England. For a further baronetcy same name, which was created in 1636 and belongs to the Baronetage of Nova Scotia, the succession to the present Viscount is not yet proven, so this currently rests.
