Vishnupant Govind Damle

Vishnupant Govind Damle ( Marathi: विष्णुपंत गोविंद दामले Viṣṇupant Govind Dāmale; born October 14, 1892 in Pen, Bombay, British India, † July 5, 1945 in Pune ) was an Indian Designer, Cinematographer, director and engineer of Maratha film.

Life

Damle was born in the district of Raigad in present-day Indian state of Maharashtra. He learned the craft of stage painter at Anandrao Painter, a cousin of Baburao Painter, with whom he was in 1918 one of the founders of the Maharashtra Film Company. He worked there as a decorator, set designer, actor and cinematographer and film development. Among his colleagues was Sheikh Fattelal, worked closely with the Damle until his death. Together they had her directorial debut in 1928 with the silent film Maharathi Karna.

1929 Damle left the Maharashtra Film Company and founded with V. Shantaram, Fattelal, Keshavrao Dhaiber and Sitarampant Kulkarni the Prabhat Film Company. There he was head of the sound department and led the playback technology into the marathisprachigen film. Occasionally he also worked as producer on, so at Shantarams Kunku ( Marathi ) / Duniya Na Mane (Hindi ) ( 1937).

As a director, Damle created at Prabhat with Fattelal " saints " films, like Sant Tukaram (1936 ), which was also shown at the 5th Venice Film Festival, and there received a special mention. In his last film Sant Sakhu (1941 ) except Fattelal was also co-director Raja Nene. After Shantaram left Prabhat 1942, Damle took over the management of the film company, but this was unsuccessful.
