Raigad district

Raigad (District) ( Marathi: रायगड जिल्हा ) is located in the state of Maharashtra in India. The town of Alibag is the capital of the district. The last census in 2011 showed a total population of 2.6342 million people.

Population

The urban population accounts for only 36.83 percent of the absolute population. A clear vast majority of the population are Hindus. Smaller minorities are the Muslims and Buddhists. In 2001, of 2,207,927 inhabitants, 1,916,707 Hindus ( 86.81 percent), 170 003 Muslims (7.70 percent) and 93 251 Buddhists (4.22 percent).

Significant places

Strongest town inhabitants of the district is Panvel with over 100,000 residents. Other important cities with a population of more than 20,000 people are Navi Mumbai ( Panvel, Raigarh ), Khopoli, Pen, Karjat, Mahad and uranium.
