Jalna district

The district Jalna ( Marathi: जालना जिल्हा ) is one of 35 districts in the state of Maharashtra in India. The town of Jalna is the administrative center of the district. The last census in 2011 showed a total population of 1,959,046 people.

History

From pre-Christian times to the year 1345, the area was - as the whole region - ruled by various Buddhist and Hindu rulers. The first known state was the Mauryan Empire, the last non-Muslim dynasty were the Yadava. After decades of paying tribute to Muslim rulers in northern India took place in 1345 occupation by Muslim soldiers. After that prevailed until the year 1724 various Muslim dynasties ( Sultanate of Delhi, Bahmani, Deccan sultanates and the Mughals Gross ). From 1724 to 1956 the area was under the rule of the Nizam of Hyderabad and belonged to the State of Hyderabad. In 1956, the Indian state was divided and the area came to Bombay State. This state was also dissolved in 1960 and as part of the district Jalna Aurangabad a part of Maharashtra. On 1 May 1981, the district Jalna emerged from the Tehsils Jalna, Bhokardan, Jafrabad and Ambad District Aurangabad and the Tehsil Partur the district Parbhani.

Population

At the last census 2011 1.959.046 inhabitants were counted. Of these, 1,011,473 were men ( 51.63 percent) and 947,573 women. Among the Dalits were 2011 272.266 ( 13.9 percent), the Adivasi 42 263 (2.16 per cent) people. 2011 From the total number of inhabitants lived only 377 429 people ( 19.27 percent) in urban areas. Thus, more than 4 out of 5 residents lived in the countryside. The majority of the population of the district of Buldhana speaks Marathi. The Muslims speak Urdu majority. Throughout the district there are 963 inhabited villages.

As everywhere in India is growing, the population in the district Buldhana decades strongly. In the years 2001-2011 the population grew by more than 20 percent ( 21.46 %) and is still significant in absolute terms. In these ten years, the population increased by nearly 350,000 people. Strongest town inhabitants of the district is the main town Jalna. Other important cities with a population of more than 10,000 people are Partur, Ambad and Bhokardan.
