Bhandara district

The district Bhandara ( Marathi: भंडारा जिल्हा ) is one of 35 districts in the state of Maharashtra in India. The city is the administrative center of the district Bhandara. The last census in 2011 showed a total population of 1,200,334 people.

History

From pre-Christian times to the year 1345, the area - such as the whole region - ruled by various Buddhist and Hindu rulers. The first known state was the Mauryan Empire, the last non-Muslim dynasty were the Gond. After decades of military conflict with Muslim rulers in northern India took place in 1345 occupation by Muslim soldiers. After that prevailed until the year 1724 various Muslim dynasties ( Sultanate of Delhi, Bahmani, Deccan sultanates and the Mughals Gross ). In 1739 the area known as Nagpur Kingdom as part of the Hindu Marathenreichs became independent. After the defeat of the Marathas against the British was in 1818 as an independent state part of the British Empire. After the last ruler of the kingdom was passed in 1853, it came to the annexation of the Kingdom of Nagpur in the British Administrative Region Central Provinces ( Central Provinces and Berar since 1903 ). With the independence of India in 1947 and the reorganization of the country in 1950 was part of the new state of Madhya Pradesh. In 1956, the Indian state was divided and the area came to Bombay State. This state was also dissolved in 1960 and the district Bhandara part of the new Indian state of Maharashtra. On 1 May 1999, a part of the district was separated and formed the new district Gondia.

Population

At the last census 2011 1.200.334 inhabitants were counted. Of these, 605 520 were men ( 50.45 percent ) and 594,814 women. Among the Dalits were 2011 200.372 ( 16.7 percent), the Adivasi 88 886 ( 7.4 per cent ) people. Of the total number of inhabitants lived 2011 233.831 persons ( 19.48 percent) in urban areas. Thus, more than 4 out of 5 residents lived in the countryside. The majority of the population of the district of Bhandara speaks Marathi. In the whole district there are 778 inhabited villages.

As everywhere in India grows, the population in the district of Bhandara decades strongly. However, the increase declined in the years 2001-2011 to less than 6 percent (5.65 %). In these ten years, the population increased by only about 60,000 people. The exact figures shows the following table:

Strongest town inhabitants of the district is the main town Bhandara. Other important cities with a population of more than 10,000 people are Tumsar, Pauni, Sakoli, Sawari Jawharnagar and Warthi.
