Visions du Réel

Visions du Reel is one of the most important international festivals for documentary films. It takes place in Nyon in Switzerland and is the third largest film festival in the country and the largest in western Switzerland.

Originally founded in 1969, it is in its present form since 1995, every year in April. 2009 40 years, " Documentary in Nyon " or 15 years Visions du Reel were celebrated.

History

Founded in 1969, Moritz de Hadeln and his wife Erika in Switzerland, Nyon Documentary Film Festival. Moritz de Hadeln was in charge of the festival until 1979 and Erika de Hadeln until 1994.

From 1995 to 2010, the film critic Jean Perret and his wife Gabriela Bussmann initiated the festival. They created the festival program from the term documentary because he would no longer meet today's variety of shapes in this genre, and replaced it with the wider title Visions du Reel. At the film festival more expressive possibilities of the cinema of reality, in addition to the classic documentaries therefore represented.

In 2010 - presented more than 160 films - for the last time under the outgoing festival director. Since 2011, directs the Italian journalist and film critic Luciano Barisone the festival.

In 2012, they showed 110 films from 47 countries. There 25,000 paying guests were counted - 4000 more than the year before.

Prices

In international competition are the following three awards - awarded by a total of 15 - the highest prize:
