Yolk - Warbler ( Dendroica vitellina )

The yolk Warbler ( Dendroica vitellina ) is a small passerine bird in the genus Dendroica from the family of warblers ( Parulidae ). The distribution area is located in the Cayman Islands and the belonging to Honduras Swan Islands in the Caribbean. The type together with the rust apex Warbler ( Dendroica discolor ) is a super species. Some authors of the grid vertices Warbler and the yolk - Warbler is also regarded as conspecific. The IUCN lists it as " Near Threatened " ( near threatened ).

Features

Yolk Warbler reach a body length of 13 centimeters and weigh 6.2 to 7.5 grams. The wing length is 5.5 to 6 inches in the male, the female, 5.2 to 5.8 centimeters. Adult males of the nominate have a dark olive crown, nape, sides of the neck and top plumage. The blackish wings have olive-colored feather edges. The Superciliarstreifen is yellow and the eyes blackish line. The faint gray beard Streif is a semi-circle over to the olive green ear covers and includes a yellow area underneath the eye. The underside plumage is bright yellow with olive faded stripes on the flanks. The bill is blackish; the legs are blackish - brown.

Adult females are similar to males. The less pronounced Superciliarstreifen is shorter, the ear covers yellow and overall the plumage duller.

Resources, nutrition and reproduction

Yolk - warblers are resident birds and inhabit thickets, coastal bushes, city areas and woodlands, forest clearings and similar vegetation. On Little Cayman and Cayman Brac the subspecies Dendroica v. crawfordi is easy to spot, while the nominate race on Grand Cayman lives hidden. How many warbler species, they feed mainly on insects and other invertebrates. The cup-shaped nest is built in the dense undergrowth. The breeding season is between April and June. A clutch usually consists of two eggs.
