Vladimir I. Georgiev

Vladimir Ivanov Georgiev ( Bulgarian Владимир Иванов Георгиев; scientific transliteration Vladimir Ivanov Georgiev; * 3 Februarjul / February 16 1908greg in Gabare, Oblast Vratsa, Bulgaria, .. † 14 June 1986) was a Bulgarian linguist.

He received his doctorate at the University of Vienna. Thereafter Georgiev Professor of Linguistics at the University of Sofia. He received a Dr. ever H.C. of the Humboldt University of Berlin and the University of Prague.

He was a member of various institutions, including the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, corresponding member of the Académie des Inscriptions et Belles Lettres, the Royal Academy of Belgium, the Finnish Academy of Sciences and the Academy of Athens. He published a series of books, especially on fundamental problems in historical linguistics.
