Vogelsangbach

The Vogelsang stream in the grove Mirker

The Vogelsang stream in the grove Mirker

Etymology

The name of the river derives from an ancient place name " Am Vogelsang ", which was already mentioned in 1551. Whether the name suggests a once bird-rich area, is not clear. A road was first described in 1850 in the address book of the city of Elberfeld named Vogelsang, today they called Vogelsangstraße.

Topography

The creek originates in around 268 meters above sea level on the Wuppertal North Downs near the confluence of the Domagkwegs in the Vogelsangstraße the middle of the park-like landscaped Mirker grove and flows through it in a southerly direction. He united here, with various smaller streams and forms a gorge, which is classified as a geological monument of nature.

After about 720 meters below the source it has reached the grounds of the swimming pool " Mirke " and passes under it piped in a southeasterly direction. Near a small garden he runs again around 100 meters to the surface, and then again piped to flow near the Teschemacher court to the mouth. The Vogelsang creek empties into approximately 183 meters above sea level in the Mirker stream, which in turn flows to the river Wupper.
