The Volcán Baru (also Volcán de Chiriqui ) is at an altitude of 3475 meters is the highest mountain in Panama.

He is a dormant volcano south of the Continental Divide in the province of Chiriquí. It is surrounded by fertile highlands of the Chiriquí and Caldera rivers drain. The towns of Volcan and Cerro Punta are located west of the volcano, Bajo Boquete east. The three-thousand is part of the national park Parque Nacional Volcán Baru.

The last major eruption took place around the year 700. The first reports of a smaller eruption go back to the years around 1550.

Some historical eruptions have been dated using the radiocarbon method. Known eruptions: 9280 BC ± 30 years, 7420 BC ± 75 years, 1270 BC ± 100 years, 260 ± 150 years, 710 ± 30 years, 1130 ± 150 years and 1340 ± 75 years.

Due to the relatively small north-south extent of Panama and the height of the volcano, it is possible on a clear day to see the summit from both the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea.
