Volga zander ( Sander volgensis )

The Volga zander or stone Schill ( Sander volgensis, Syn Stizostedion volgensis ) is a fish of the family of the Real perch ( Percidae ).

Features

The fish is smaller than the ordinary Zander. He is a maximum of 40 to 50 inches long and two kilograms. He has dark stripes on the body, which do not dissolve in spots. In the mouth it has no strikingly larger ( catch ) teeth. The whole anterior operculum is covered with scales. Occurrence

In the Czech Republic the Volga zander is home again only recently. It is seen mainly in the flat portions of the rivers Morava and Thaya.

Reproduction

The Volga pike spawns from April to May in shallow places. Just like the pike, the male also takes on the Volga zander the brood.

Way of life
