Volker Schmidt

Volker Schmidt ( born September 22, 1978 in Hamburg ) is a former German football player ( Fullback ) and current football coach.

Life

Schmidt played in youth when TV Jahn William Castle and later at the HNT Hamburg before he moved to the youth of the Hamburger SV in 1991. He finished high school at the High School Southern Elbe. In 2002 he rose to the HSV- professionals, but there was only used very rarely.

The highlight of his career were initially three Intertoto Cup games in 2005. Under coach Thomas Doll he was set up in July 2005 in the second-round games against the Macedonian representatives FK Pobeda Prilep and in the following round against União Leiria in Portugal. From the 2006/07 season to Schmidt was originally no more to professional cadres of HSV, but was recalled to the first team due to injury problems before the winter break. On 9 December 2006 compared to the first FC Nuremberg, he finally made ​​his Bundesliga debut and can also look back on two more missions against Alemannia Aachen Arminia Bielefeld. In the UEFA Cup quarter-finals against Manchester City as well as in the league match against VfB Stuttgart in April 2009, Schmidt was again in the senior squad, but was an unused substitute in each case.
