The mountain Kojšovská hola ( 1246 m N.M. )

The Volovské Hills (literally " Volovecer mountains " ) are a mountain range in the eastern part of the Slovak Ore Mountains and the greater part. The maximum extent of the mountain is about 70 × 30 km. The highest peak is called Zlatý stôl (1322 m nm), his name has the mountains to the mountain Volovec. The ridges are mostly 800-1100 m nm high.

The mountain is almost completely forested, most commonly occurs spruce and fir forest, located in the south occasionally also beech and oak forest.

The mountains bordering the Hornádska kotlina ( Hornád boiler ) in the north, Čierna hora ( " Black Mountain " ) in the north- east, Košice kotlina ( Kassa boiler) in the southeast, the Slovak Karst and Rožňavská kotlina (Rose Auer boiler) in the south and the Zips - Gemer Karst in the Northeast. Some towns on the edge of the mountains are Rožňava, Dobšiná, Markušovce, Krompachy, Košice and Medzev. In the mountains there are old mining towns as Gelnica, Rudňany or Smolník and more, where gold, silver, copper, mercury, and iron ore were promoted.

The Volovské Hills are further divided into:

  • Havranie Hills ( "Raven Mountain " )
  • Knola
  • Zlatý stôl ( "Golden Table " )
  • Hnilecké Hills ( " Hnilec Mountains " )
  • Pipitka
  • Kojšovská hola
  • Holická

Almost the entire mountain is managed as a bird sanctuary.
